Ikea Hack – Besta Cabinets

Before I get to the cabinet…

Bathroom Tile

Can you sense my excitement??  After 2 years of this…

bathroom before

Can you believe it???  A floor!!!  :)  :)

We’re on a roll, and I have a ton of stuff to do so that the project can keep moving – ordering a sink top and a tub (clawfoot! yay!), but I wanted to share this quick Ikea hack before I get to work.

When I was shopping for the office, my first priority had to be storage space.  We turned the closet in this room into a computer nook, so all of the games that were in the closet had to find a home somewhere.

Besta Before

I chose the Besta cabinet, and was able to fit 3 of them along the wall.  The only problem with the cabinet (for me), is that they have a modern look, when obviously I prefer a cottage look.

Easy fix.

Cover each of the door fronts with beadboard wallpaper.

Besta Hack

Use a miter box to cut trim pieces to fit as a frame around the outside of the door.  (I used my favorite inexpensive trim from Home Depot – this one is a 2.5″ wide casing.)

Cabinet Trim

Caulk all of the gaps.  My measuring and cutting is not always the best, so I had lots of gaps.  The caulk hides so many flaws!

End Besta

Add crystal knobs.  Or whatever knobs.  I love the little crystal ones.

The cabinet still has a modern feel, with a little cottage character.  And it was so easy!

Now on to the bathroom project…

Much love,

Adorable Brenda! The trim and beadboard wallpaper give it a completely different look. Great Ikea hack!

Love that Ikea hack! I generally stay away from Ikea because I don’t like the modern style of most of their furniture either, but I’m definitely going to have to keep this idea in mind.

Can’t wait to see more of the bathroom — the floor tile looks amazing!

  3. Love the hack, and I cannot wait to see the bathroom! I adore the basket weave tile you used on the floor :)

  4. Someday soon you’ll be able to walk barefoot in your bathroom :) And actually use it ;) Beautiful basketweave tile and when complete with your touches I’m sure it will exude a cottage luxe vibe. Love the besta hack, so smart!

  5. Awesome job on the Ikea hack! Loving the the beadboard and knobs that you added and the tile you chose for your bathroom floor is gorgeous!

  6. Judy says:

You did a great job on the ikea hack. The knobs are a perfect finishing touch. I would love for you to come and link this up to my Fall into Fall party that opens each Tuesday night at 8pm EST. Hope to see you there. http://diybydesign.blogspot.com

  7. Oh Girl.. I can’t wait to see where you are going with that bathroom. It is looking quite wonderful! And…your hack is to die for! Genius! xoxo
